Maintenance Analyser

If you're wondering whether or not you will save money by taking out a maintenance contract for your next new car or van then we can help you find the right answer.

Our maintenance analyser can forecast service and repair schedules and costs for up to 5 years and 150,000 miles.

To get started take a look at our briefing below - it will help you understand what our analyser can do and how you can use it to help your business.

Even if you're a regular user then it may still help you to read it again anyway.

Think of it like the toolkit tucked away under your spare wheel; you want it to stay there, but just as long as you know it is there ....

    What Does It Do?

What Does It Do?

Our maintenance analyser will compare instantly the cost and cash-flow impact on your business of taking out a maintenance contract for a car or van compared to using an external fleet maintenance management company or administering your own vehicle servicing and repairs.

By blending information about your business with maintenance cost forecasts we can work out whether or not your business should take a maintenance contract to fix your maintenance costs or manage maintenance costs either by yourself of with the help of a specialist maintenance management company.

Taking account of forecast vehicle maintenance costs from reknown vehicle data company CAP-HPI our analyser will schedule forecast maintenance costs over the vehicle life (up to 5 years and 150,000 miles).

We'll blend this data with tax relief for running costs, plus recoverable VAT and your rate of return on capital to profile the cost and cash-flow impact of using contract maintenance vs self or externally administered servicing and repairs.

We'll show you whichever approach is forecast to be cheaper or more cash-efficient, with side-by-side comparisons of estimated costs.

And if you already have your own maintenance data you can use that too - you can instantly swap the data from CAP-HPI for your own.

    Getting Started

Getting Started

Your Business Profile

To begin you'll need to set up some information about your business, such as the corporation tax rate and VAT recovery.

We'll also need details about the rate of return achieved on capital invested in the business. This is to calculate the effect on your business of cash-flow changes caused by paying for a monthly maintenance contract compared to using a 'Pay-As-You-Go' approach.

The rate of return on capital is used in cash-flow modelling, but don't worry if you don't yet know your return on capital - you can use our default values and change the details later.

Similarly, if there's any other information you're not sure about then just use the example data we provide - you can always go back and change the details at any time.

We won't keep any business data you provide. Once you leave our site and close the browser window the data will be erased from our servers, but remember that your web browser may keep browsing data for a period of time and this is beyond our control.

If you leave your computer, tablet or phone for a while when using our maintenance analyser your session on this web site will eventually 'time-out' and we'll then wipe the data as well to help prevent someone else from seeing it (but please don't rely on that - just close your browser window and come back to us later).

Car/Van Selection

Next we'll ask you about the car or van you want to analyse - just select a car or van from the manufacturer, range and model lists.

Operating Cycle

Once the vehicle is selected we'll ask you about the operating cycle for the vehicle.

This is the period you expect to keep the vehicle and the total mileage it will travel over that period. You can select up to 5 years (60 months) and up to 150,000 total miles.

Maintenance Forecast

Once you have selected the operating cycle we'll forecast the typical servicing and maintenance costs for the vehicle. You'll see an breakdown of forecast costs for:

  • Scheduled servicing according to the manufacturer's service specification for the vehicle
  • Non-scheduled maintenance of the vehicle outside the manufacturer's normal requirements and warranty cover
  • Tyre replacement costs and schedules
  • Brake pad/shoe/disc/drum replacement costs and schedules
  • MOT test costs (excluding repairs required to pass the MOT - these are already in the forecast non-scheduled maintenance)
  • Timing belt replacement (for vehicles kept beyond the typical life of a consumable type rubber/composite belt)
  • A monthly maintenance contract for the vehicle at the selected operating cycle

You can also add any monthly adminstration costs for running your vehicles or charges from a fleet administration company for doing this for you.

You can change any of the forecast costs just by typing new values into the appropriate boxes.

You're Ready To Go!

Once you've completed the business profile and vehicle selection you're ready to see the analysis results.

We'll show you the cost and cash-flow impact on your business of:
  • taking a fixed maintenance contract;
  • using an external fleet administration company for Pay-As-You-Go maintenance; and
  • self administered maintenance on a Pay-As-You-Go basis.

Once you've analysed one vehicle you can build up a fleet of cars or vans (or a mixture).

You'll be able to see the cost and cash-flow impact of contract and non-contract maintenace on each vehicle and on the entire fleet.
